Removable dental restorations refer to dental appliances that can be taken out of the mouth for cleaning or maintenance. These restorations are designed to replace missing teeth or cover damaged teeth, restoring your smile’s aesthetics and functionality.<\/p>

Examples of removable dental restorations include dentures and partial dentures. Dentures are prosthetic devices that replace all of the teeth on the upper or lower jaw. Partial dentures, on the other hand, replace one or several missing teeth and are designed to attach to the remaining natural teeth using metal clasps.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Unlike fixed restorations, removable restorations can be taken out of the mouth for cleaning and maintenance, making them easier to care for. These tissue-supported prostheses are an excellent option for your edentulous and partially edentulous patients. 85% of people with these types of restorations report they are healthier and are able to eat different food such as fruits and vegetables because of their stabilized dentures. The locator has two components: the abutment that screws into the implant and the nylon housing that is embedded in the prosthesis. Over time both of these components experience wear; depending on the patient, some will wear faster than others.\u00a0<\/p>

When talking to your patient about the wear of these components, you might offer the comparison of car maintenance, e.g. oil change twice a year, replace tires every few years. The nylon housing requires replacement every 6 months and the abutment will need to be replaced every few years. If the nylon housing is worn more frequently the denture or partial needs to be relined to extend the life of the housing and abutment. Few labs have our knowledge and experience with all implant systems. The procedure we’ve put in place at Rotsaert Dental Laboratory is a hybrid that combines digital dentistry with a tried-and-true lab procedure. For our customers, we now duplicate finished dentures. The core concept was inspired by a client who was coping with their grandma in a retirement facility.<\/p>

The topic of whether we could digitally scan an existing denture and make a new one without the client taking an impression was posed. I questioned, “Why do you desire that?
